Relaxation techniques and Reiki ...are a safe and gentle way to calm your mind and soothe your body.

No drugs are used, there are no unwanted or unpleasant side effects. It is simply an opportunity for you, with the guidance of a therapist, to drift into a very pleasant state of relaxation while you feel the stresses and strains of everyday life lifting from you.

How can I relax when I usually feel so tense?
The therapist guides you into a relaxed state, usually by asking you to simply close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing while gentle music plays in the background. As you become more and more relaxed you may be aware of sinking deeper into the chair or treatment couch. You may feel distant but you continue to hear everything that is going on around you. The therapist then gently guides you into an increasingly deeper state of relaxation when your mind will be most receptive to making the positive, beneficial changes that you are thinking about. After treatment you feel relaxed, refreshed and positive.

What happens in a relaxation session?
At the initial consultation the therapist will discuss with you what you want to achieve. She will explain how the therapy can work and take a case history. You will agree a course of treatment and the probable number of sessions required to achieve your objectives which is usually between two and four one-hour appointments. The exception is the one-off 2 hour stop smoking therapy.

What happens in a Reiki session?
As in a relaxation session you discuss what you want to achieve and after asking some background questions the therapist will ask you to remove your shoes and lay on the treatment couch. You will be covered with a light towel or cloth throughout the treatment. The therapist will gently place her hands over the major energy centres of the body which will be explained before the treatment begins. During the treatment you usually feel a comforting heat coming from the therapist’s hands. After the treatment you usually feel deeply rested and in a more positive frame of mind.

Can children benefit from learning how to relax?
Yes. Children from 6 to 16 can be treated, but only with the consent and in the presence of their parent or guardian. Anyone between 16 and 18 must have written consent from a parent or guardian. Feeling more relaxed can help with, for example, exam nerves, shyness, motivation. The number and duration of sessions will be agreed with the parent/guardian.

Can children benefit from having a Reiki treatment?
Yes although it is usually a shorter session than for an adult. It is completely safe and if they want to they can bring a favourite toy with them.
